Overview
The monument is dedicated to the heroes of the community, who died fighting during the Turkish invasion of 1974. George Michael: George Michael, a native of Gerolakkos, was born on January 27, 1953. He served as a soldier of the 286 M.T.P. He died heroically fighting under airplane fire in August 1974 in Filia. The hero was buried in the community of Evrychou at the age of 21. Kostas Konstantinou: Kostas Konstantinou was born on 11 May 1949. He served as a reserve sergeant of the 33rd MC. He breathed his last in Pilleri, Kyrenia. His fate was unknown until 2013. The hero was buried in his hometown Evrychou, on December 7, 2013. Michael Keenanis: Twenty-year-old Michael Keenanis, served with 256 T.P. He was killed by the Turkish invaders on August 6, 1974 when the hero was ambushed by the Turks in the battle of Karava - Lapithos. Michalakis Skoufaris: Michalakis Skoufaris was born on 10 February 1955 and served his term as a soldier of the 256 T.P. He fell heroically fighting on 27 July 1974, at Agridaki, near Pentadaktylos, mortally wounded by a Turkish mortar. Phevos Pavlidis: Phevos Pavlidis was born on August 19, 1954 and served his time as a commando of the 32nd M.K. His fate was missing from August 14, 1974, in the Kythrea-Chalevkas area, until his remains were identified in 2015. The hero's funeral was held on 21 November 2015 in Evrychou.
