The Monument of Odysseas Dimitriou Kleanthous stands proudly in Pano Kivides, a testament to the heroism and selfless sacrifice of this remarkable individual. This magnificent copper metal bust captures the essence of Odysseas, starting from his chest and ascending upwards. Completed on the 14th of January 1996, this monument serves as a poignant tribute, honoring his memory for his valiant defense of the nation during the fateful events of 1974. The inauguration of this monument was graced by the esteemed presence of Ntinos Michailidis, the then Minister of Interior, who recognized the indomitable spirit and bravery displayed by the Hero. Born in his ancestral village of Old Pano Kivides, Odysseas Dimitriou Kleanthous was the second child of three of Kleanthi Nikolaou and Ellous Odyssea. He pursued his education at the prestigious Higher Learning School of Archimandrite Agathokleous Georgiou, completing his studies in 1968. Continuing his quest for knowledge, he joined the Infantry School as a diligent and dedicated Dokimos Efedros Aksiomatikos, equivalent to a cadet in the English terminology. Once he was demobilized, he became betrothed in Akrotiri, filled with dreams and aspirations for a promising future. Tragically, fate intervened on the 20th of July 1974 when Odysseas valiantly fought against the invading Turkish forces as an Efedros Anthypolochagos, or Second lieutenant in English terminology, in the infamous Battle of Episkopi. It was on this day that his life was tragically cut short, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and an everlasting imprint on the hearts of his fellow countrymen. The Monument of Odysseas Dimitriou Kleanthous serves as a solemn reminder of his ultimate sacrifice, inspiring generations to come with his unwavering dedication and unwavering love for his homeland.
