Overview

The abandoned old village of Pano Kivides, situated 25 km northwest of Limassol along the Limassol-Platres road, rests at an altitude of 520 meters on a steep mountainside. The architectural style of the village resembled that of other mountainous villages in the area, featuring stone-built houses constructed in an amphitheatrical arrangement along the mountainside, complemented by stone-paved roads. Through it passed a tributary named Krios, which branched off from the main river Kourris, making the area lush with greenery and the land fertile, ideal for farming. Despite the steep edges and cliffs on which it was built, the village's orchards flourished with olive trees, carob trees, almond trees, and grapevines, alongside crops such as wheat, as well as livestock farms raising pigs, sheep, and goats. At its peak before people moved to the new Pano Kivides in 1982, there lived 539 people in the village.
