Overview

The two pierced stones near the chapel of Agios Stefanos are of particular importance for Pachna, as the total number of these identical stones in the whole of Cyprus does not exceed 50. According to tradition, the stones were either used to show the location of some hidden treasure once light had passed, or to help childless women to conceive as they passed through the hole in the stones. A more scientific explanation for their use was that they were used as oil presses created during the Bronze Age.
