Overview
The Monument of Heroes and Missing Persons in Vouni is a memorial dedicated to the bravery of the people of Vouni who fought for freedom during the national liberation fight of 1955-59. It stands as a tribute to the sacrifice of Andreas Vlamis and Platonas Stylianou, two immortal brave men who fought for what they believed was beautiful, high, valuable, and holy. The statues of the two brave men release a powerful message to every visitor, reminding them that freedom and dignity are worth fighting for and sacrificing one's life for. The monument also bears a plaque with the names of two missing persons and a brutally murdered victim of the Turkish invasion, underscoring one of the most tragic aspects of the conflict. The Community Council and the Association of Expatriates helped build the monument to remind us of our debt and responsibilities to find the missing persons and honor the sacrifice of those who fell in battle.
