Overview
Panagia Apotheriotissa stands as a striking testament to the convergence of ancient tradition and contemporary reverence. This beautiful new church emerges from the hallowed grounds of the ancient Panagia Apotheriotissa church, adhering faithfully to the architectural heritage of the Troodos Byzantine churches. Nestled within the enchanting depths of the Kakopetria forest, approximately 4 kilometers from the village center, it offers a tranquil sanctuary accessible either by a winding forest dirt road or a serene footpath along the same route. The name "Apotheri" or "Apotherka," which bestowed its grace upon this sacred site, is believed to trace its origins to the time-honoured tradition of farmers. This elevated terrain served as the pinnacle of their toil, where seeds were sown and crops ripened, awaiting harvest later than their counterparts in lower lands. Panagia Apotheriotissa once held within its walls a venerable icon of Christ and the beautiful icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary. These sacred relics have since found their new dwelling in the Transfiguration of the Savior Church.
