Overview
The view point "Krouvellos" is located in the community of Moutoulla, in the location called Krouvellos. Very likely the name of the toponym is related to the word krovylos which means the braid of a count on the top of the head (korivos = bun, for ori the top) from its shape. In the 1980s many works were done to support the rocks that flowed towards the village. To the north and northeast you see the valley of the river Setrachos (or river of Marathasa) with the many orchards that ends up to the gulf of Xeros. When the atmosphere is clear, the gulf of Xeros and Morphou and even the opposite mountains of M.Asia can be clearly seen. To the northeast is the location of Marathos, which is crossed by the river of the same name. The Franco-Byzantine settlement of Marathos was located there. A large group of 52 settlements was named Marathassa after the name of this settlement. (Marathasha of the King and Marathasha of Conte). Marathos was the favorite summer residence of Rigas and Rigaina. The king and the lords went hunting in the surrounding mountains and Rigaina went to the location of Kliruthkiou of Mutulla, where she bathed in the sulphurous waters of the village. To the east you see the village of Pedoulas and beyond the mountains of Troodos with the highest peak, Olympus. To the south, west and north-west you see the Drakon mountain, the road that leads from Pedoulas to the monastery of Kykkos and the Throne of Panagia. In front of you, the houses of Moutoullas spread out in an amphitheater. Connected to Moutoullas is the village of Kalopanagiotis and further on the village of Oikos. Further to the left is the village of Gerakies. To the west and lower down is the valley of Katouris, a tributary of Setrachos, which tributary divides the landscape of Moutoullas. From the vantage point the visitor can observe the bay of Morphou and distinguish many occupied villages of Cyprus. At the same time they dominate | imposingly many mountain peaks of the area, especially Troodos, where the remarkable flora and fauna of the Troodos National Forest and the Paphos National Forest. The project was implemented by the Moutoulla Community Council in accordance with the provisions of the financing plan and the instructions of the Forestry Department. The study, for coordination and supervision of the project, was undertaken by the Troodos Development Company.
